HEALTHY SKIN MOCKTAILS
If you saw our blog post last week, you will have read about the importance of proper hydration. Minerals are essential to hydrating our cells and, in turn, our skin and body. This week we want to bring you four healthy skin mocktails that are abundant in minerals, natural sugars, and vitamins to enhance your hydration and overall radiance.
We found these drinks in a 1984 Vogue beauty book and have been making them ourselves ever since (with a few modern twists). They are sensational, super-hydrating, and just what you need for super-luminous skin. Whether you're preparing for dry January, looking for the perfect mocktail to serve your wellness friends, or craving an afternoon pick-me-up, we had to share these with you! See below for the recipes:
01 Whole Lemonade
3 lemons
3-4 tablespoons honey or sweetener of choice
3 ¾ cups cold filtered water
Sliced lemon and limes to infuse / decorate
Cut up lemons into blender-friendly pieces. Leave the skin on but remove any seeds you can. Blend (or process in a food processor) with the honey and ½ of the water. Blend until smooth, add the remaining water, strain, and serve. Decorate each glass with a slice of citrus. Serves 4.
02 Sunrise
4 oranges
2 lemons
1 ¼ cups of sparkling water
⅔ cup tart cherry juice
Crushed ice
Squeeze the juice of the oranges and lemons into a pitcher. Add the soda water and stir in the tart cherry juice. Place crushed ice in tall glasses and pour in the Sunrise drink. Serves 4.
03 Iced Mint Tea
2 ½ cups of filtered water
3 sprigs of fresh mint (or 1 tea bag of peppermint tea)
Honey to taste
2 teabags of green tea
Crushed ice
Place the water in a pan, add the mint and the honey, add your green tea bags, and bring to a boil. Turn the heat off and transfer the infusion into a pitcher. Place in the refrigerator until ice cold. To serve, strain the mixture in glasses filled with crushed ice, fresh mint leaves, and sliced lemon. The colder it is, the better it tastes! Serves 4.
04 Peach, Apple and Ginger Fizz
2 medium peaches, peeled, de-seeded, and chopped
1 ½ apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
¼ of a thumb sized knob of ginger, peeled and chopped
600 ml ginger ale (or sparkling water + honey)
Crushed ice
*Apple slices to decorate
Place the peaches, apples, and ginger into a blender or food processor with a small splash of ginger ale. Blend thoroughly. Add the rest of the ginger ale and blend until smooth. Pour into glasses with crushed ice and sliced apples. Drink while frothy. Serves 4.
We always aim to share functional foods that are truly delicious and beneficial to your wellness and skin health. These mocktails are no exception. Share them with friends or family who may need extra hydration this season, and if you make any yourself, tell us how you like it!
